Beauty and the Beast

Does it disturb anyone else that Beast was transformed when he was 11? It seems like they could have dropped the 21st birthday reference or the ten years comment. And then they show portraits of him in human form. He doesn't look 11 in them. So were they age projections? Also, why is the fairy cursing the entire castle? Here you are, a good hard working servant whose only mistake was working for the prince (who probably wouldn't let you say no anyway) and suddenly you and your children are stuck being a tea set for all time. I think this fairy is an evil fairy. Which does fit some versions of the fairy tale, but I don't think that was Disney's intention. Perhaps if the orphaned 11 year old had been nurtured and guided instead of made into a hideous monster, he might have turned out alright.

  1. The Prince (aka Beast) was "spoiled" etc. (I can't quote the movie anymore) so he deserved to be turned into a monster. So if he hadn't gone through his trials he probably wouldn't have met Belle, he would have hooked up with some other princess long before.

  2. There are a lot of plot holes in Disney movies. Just keep watching, you'll find more.
